Layers in Repetition
Our design ethos lies a profound respect for cultural heritage intertwined with a modern, forward-thinking approach. The Tabio store, a Japanese brand opening its doors in Korea, stands as a testament to this philosophy, seamlessly blending Japanese and Korean influences into a captivating retail space that transcends tradition while honoring its roots.
Layers in Repetition
Drawing inspiration from the intrinsic beauty of layering found in both Japanese and Korean architectural traditions, our design narrative revolves around the concept of "layers in repetition." This motif serves as the foundational principle guiding every aspect of the Tabio store's interior.
Reimagining Tradition
Central to our vision is the utilization of wood veneer and lattice work, materials deeply rooted in the architectural lexicon of both Japan and Korea. However, rather than adhering strictly to tradition, we reimagine these elements with a contemporary twist. Vertical and horizontal emphasis on the structure creates a visually compelling narrative, with each layer meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of depth and texture.
Functionality and Aesthetic Harmony
The functionality of the wooden structures within the space is paramount. While serving as both dividers and support structures, they also function as display areas for Tabio's signature socks. The placement of these structures not only delineates space but also directs the viewer's gaze, with the repetition of vertical layers creating a mesmerizing visual rhythm that accentuates the focal points of the store.
Expanding Boundaries
Mirrored surfaces adorning the top and bottom back panels of the wood veneer structures create an illusion of extended space, effectively blurring the boundaries between the physical and perceived dimensions of the interior. This interplay of reflection not only enhances the sense of spaciousness but also amplifies the visual impact of the layered structures.
Concealing the Column
In the center of the store, there was a column that we seamlessly integrated with a digital wall, cleverly concealing it from view so that visitors wouldn't notice it at first glance. We positioned the digital wall to be visible when entering the space, enhancing the overall experience.
Warmth
A carefully curated warm palette infuses the space with a sense of coziness and familiarity. From the earthy tones of wood veneer to the light beige and dark beige hues adorning the walls and floors, every element is harmoniously integrated to evoke a feeling of warmth and comfort. The warm-toned lighting further enhances the ambiance.
Exterior Transformation
Beyond the confines of the interior, the Tabio store's facade has undergone a metamorphosis. Originally constructed with bricks, we've transformed it into a warm beige hue, adopting a minimalist shape that seamlessly integrates with the overall material concept and brand identity. To enhance the entrance's allure, we've added a rectangular gate, accentuating the facade's composition and window shapes. Against the clean beige backdrop, the black Tabio signage stands out prominently, creating a harmonious balance of tones.
The Tabio store represents more than just a retail space; it's a harmonious blend of cultural heritage, innovative design, and sensory delight—a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful design in interior and architecture.
